We are making a call for an Indigenous, Black and people of colour bloc to join together during the demonstration against police brutality this coming Tuesday, March 15.

We assert that it’s important, for everyone, to come out in large numbers to collectively express our rage against the police, their impunity and their brutality. At the same time, we feel it’s especially important for Indigenous, Black and people of colour to take up space in this demonstration, united together, in clearly denouncing the racism and racial profiling we experience daily, and to denounce the police’s structural role in maintaining this violence.

We denounce in particular the targeting of Indigenous and Black communities, who experience racism more viciously than all other communities, historically and contemporarily.

Often Indigenous, Black and people of colour who are against police impunity stay away from the March 15 demonstration for different reasons. This people of colour bloc can’t address all concerns, but as Indigenous, Black and people of colour who have participated in the past, we feel it’s important to encourage the participation of our friends and family, even at this late stage. We want to create a space where some of our issues and concerns are clearly articulated, and a space where we can support each other.

It’s particularly important to take up space publicly this March 15, because of the concerted effort by Montreal’s cops to try to shut down militant street protest (with tactics ranging from mass arrests with tickets, to outright violence against protesters). We are going to join together with our comrades on March 15, and in particular encourage Indigenous, Black and people of colour to unite this year.
