Man beaten by métro inspectors says he has PTSD, is unable to work

The 21-year-old man whose beating by métro inspectors was captured on video March 7 says he’s not angry or bitter.

The inspectors “were just trying to do their job,” Juliano Gray said Tuesday at a news conference at the Centre for Research-Action on Race Relations (CRARR).

“But it was brutal and excessive force,” he added.

Gray, who had been working part time as a dishwasher, said he has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and unable to work since two métro inspectors threw him against a wall and beat him on the legs with their batons after pursuing him for an unpaid fare.

Gray, who suffers from a condition that was not disclosed, rambled and strayed from the point at times in describing the altercation, which began on an Orange Line train at about 9:30 p.m.
