~~~
En cette année 2021, nous en avons tout simplement assez. Nous appelons donc tout simplement à l’abolition de la police. Cela fait maintenant un quart de siècle que nous prenons la rue pour forcer la police à se réformer, et pour nous la situation a assez duré. Les commissions d’enquête se multiplient, les rapports sont de plus en plus accablants, et malgré tout rien de concret ne se passe. Pour nous, la seule solution possible est de virer toute cette bande de clowns dehors et de reconstruire tout de zéro. On leur a laissé leur chance : il est temps de passer à autre chose, il est temps de penser à un Montréal post-SPVM.
Parce qu'au final, à quoi a servi jusqu'à maintenant tout ce système de répression institutionnel, ici et ailleurs ? Qui ce système a-t-il protégé ? Certainement pas les femmes qui se battaient contre l’agresseur sexuel Gilbert Rozon. Certainement pas les autochtones de New Edinburgh en Nouvelle-Écosse contre les racistes blancs qui ont mis le feu à leur entrepôt. Certainement pas les femmes autochtones de Val-d'Or, qui attendent toujours d'avoir justice. Certainement pas les personnes qui se sont retrouvées à la rue suite à la pandémie et trouvaient refuge dans différents campements à Montréal. Certainement pas les "anges gardiens" qui sont toujours sous la menace imminente d'une déportation.
Si la police ne nous protège pas, alors à quoi sert-elle ? Et nous ne sommes pas les seul-e-s à demander son abolition : la situation est la même partout. On entend les mêmes revendications en France, au Chili et en territoire Mapuche, en Ayiti, au Nigéria, aux États-Unis et au Brésil. Un mouvement mondial gronde et prend de l’ampleur : Un mouvement qui demande la fin de la police telle qu’on la connaît. Un mouvement qui crie, haut et fort, qu'ON EN A ASSEZ !
Assez de compter les assassinats aux mains de la police. Assez de devoir assister aux funérailles de nos ami-e-s, de nos parent-e-s, de nos enfants. Assez au point où nos larmes sont devenues colère, parce qu’injustice et impunité riment avec cette parodie de système colonial-raciste-sexiste. Parce qu’il y a des alternatives. Parce qu'on veut passer à autre chose, passer à un monde où nous avons une place, plutôt qu'un monde où nous ne sommes qu'une cible pour une bande criminalisée en uniforme. Parce qu’assez, c'est assez !
Ce lundi 15 mars, nous nous rencontrons à 17h00 au métro Parc pour exprimer non seulement notre colère mais aussi nos revendications dans le cadre de cette vingt-cinquième journée internationale contre la brutalité policière. ABOLISSONS LA POLICE !
Nous reconnaissons que nous nous trouvons sur le territoire traditionnel de la nation Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk). Les Kanien’kehá:ka sont les gardiens de la porte de l'est de la confédération Haudenosaunee (Iroquoise). L'île appelée « Montréal » est connue sous le nom de Tiohtià:ke en Kanien’kéha et a historiquement été un point de rencontre pour d'autres peuples autochtones. Nous soutenons activement la souveraineté et l'autodétermination des peuples autochtones, et nous nous vouons à approfondir notre compréhension collective des luttes autochtones.
~~~

Call out: March 15th 2021 - 5pm -Metro Parc -25th Annual International Day Against Police Brutality

We are now one year under health restrictions by the state, with many of us losing friends and family to COVID-19 and the capitalist negligence in its handling. Since the 13th of March 2020 we are extremely skeptical that this capitalist government cares for us the people one bit; a year of forcing us back to work, not freezing rents, and attacking the most vulnerable of our society: those without status, those who face systemic barriers in accessing care, and those starving while working shit jobs. How about those who live in poorer, working class neighbourhoods, like Montreal North, who don't have access to fundamental resources that guarantee a decent and dignified existence. No matter where we (they) go for help, resources, and solidarity, the capitalist settler state is always omnipresent with its strong arm.

We have to underline the actions of police as this really has been the year of police and policing! In a difficult context where all the population tried to do the best to help one another out in solidarity, there has been one constant part of the equation that we were always aware of: the police are everywhere. We would have imagined they would have fallen back, at least somewhat, after the brutal police assassination of George Floyd, but this was not the case. Canadian Police officers have killed at least 34 people in the first eleven months of 2020, half of whom were Indigenous People: Chantel Moore, Rodney Levi, Eishia Hudson...our SPVM doesn't rest either: it is they who killed Sheffield Matthews the 29th of October 2020 in cold blood. Without counting the complete mascarade that surrounded the arrest of Mamadi Camara, could you imagine the excuses dolled out by state officials in regards to this? How his family, his wife feel? How traumatizing this all was? How much different things could have gone?
*****
It is now 2021. We've had enough. We are making our call simple and easily digestible: we are calling for the abolition of the police. It is now a quarter of a century that we take to the streets to force the police to reform, n for us the situation is hard enough. The investigative commissions multiply, the reports are more damning yet, and despite all this nothing ever seems to change. Nothing concrete ever passes. For us the only possible solution is to strive for a world without these clowns; let’s get rid of them from bottom to top and start again from the beginning. We have been more than lenient, we have given them more than their fair chance: it is now time to think of something different for Montreal, for a Montreal post-SPVM.

Ultimately, what do these thugs of the repressive bourgeois settler states have to offer? With all this institutionalized repression here and in many parts of the world we can't help but ask: what system to they protect? Who do they protect? Certainly not the women fighting their abusers, like Gilbert Rozon. Certainly not the Indigenous people living in New Edinburgh, who had their storage facility burned to the ground by a gang of angry, marauding whites. Certainly not helpful for the Native women living in Val-d'Or, who are still waiting for justice to be served after years of taking the brunt of state sanctioned attacks. It is certainly not the homeless here in Montreal, those who try to find refuge throughout the metropolis, only to be harassed and hounded by vicious state agents. The "anges gardiens," on the frontline of COVID related health, certainly could go without the constant threat of state violence many of them must navigate when they "over stay their papers."

If the police both cause harm and cannot make society safer then what purpose do they serve? We are not the only people to call for the abolition of this violent gang of elite protecting thugs: the situation is the same over the entire world! From France, Chile, Mapuche territory, Ayiti, Nigeria, the so-called united states, Brazil, occupied Turtle Island and beyond: a worldwide movement is growing exponentially, a movement that demands the end of policing as we know it, a movement whose battle cry is "WE'VE HAD ENOUGH!"

Enough with counting deaths and murders in police hands. Enough of having to help families with funeral arrangements for our friends, parents, children, comrades, and allies. Enough of criminalizing us for speaking truth to power! Justice is impossible in this racist, colonial, sexist, bourgeois state. Because there are alternatives. Because we want systemic changes, a world where we all have our place, a world where we're not just cheap shots for a gang of criminals in uniform. Because enough is enough!

This Monday March 15th, we will be meeting at 5 pm at metro Parc to express not only our anger and discontent, but to come back to the theme of the 25th annual day against police brutality: COMPLETE POLICE ABOLITION!

We recognize that we are on the unceded traditional territory of the Kanien'kehá:ka (Mohawk). the Kanien'kehá:ka are the keepers of the eastern door of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Confederacy. The island called "Montreal" is known also by its traditional name of Tiohtià:ke in Kanien’kéha and was historically a meeting place for many native nations. We actively support the sovereignty and self-determination of native peoples, including the Kanien'kehá:ka, and we continue to deepen our understanding of the struggles of Indigenous nations and people on this occupied land.

*****
Right wing reactionaries, pro Trump thugs, anti-maskers, and fascists of all kinds are not welcome to our demonstration. We also demand that participants in our demonstration conform to health regulations in regards to the ongoing pandemic, especially in regards to using masks and socially distancing so as to protect our most vulnerable.

****
sexual abusers/rapists et al. are NOT welcome to our demonstration
